“Have you heard of Interceptor 003?” said Thu, my best friend, who came back from her Can Tho trip.
“What? ” I answered with confusion.
“Coca-Cola became the first global implementation partner for The Ocean Cleanup’s River project. And Interceptor 003 is cleaning up Can Tho river! Forever Coca-cola.” continued Thu.
It was an “Aha moment” for me as I finally understood the power of marketing and the way it could impact a person’s view of a brand. Surprisingly, that talk has fascinated me, changed my small business dramatically and motivated me to choose Digital Marketing at RMIT Vietnam in my later academic path.
My online accessories shop, launched in August 2022, attracted only 20 followers and had no order in the first two months although I used paid advertising which even resulted in negative return. However, things started changing when I learned about storytelling and community oriented marketing inspired by Coke, which means that through each of my products, I convey motivating messages about friendship or overcoming challenges to my customers. Now, the number of followers is over 1000 and the sale is rising, about 25 orders per week. Some people even suggested that I blog, which I did, as they felt inspired from my stories. Moreover, I even just set up a project called “The Shooting Stars” to encourage my followers to donate books for underprivileged children, which aims to help a number of kids access literacy. Besides, at school, I also managed to be the best twelfth grader with a GPA of 9.4. As a result, while being somehow financially independent from my family, I am improving my leadership and time management skills as well as contributing to the community spirit.
Applying to RMIT, I believe a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Marketing would be a promising investment for my future endeavors. Among many heated courses, I found Digital Content Creation captivating as it would enable me to develop an effective content strategy including adapting stories or integrating audio-visual materials to attract and engage customers, which I am learning to enhance my small business and to prepare my future Digital Marketing career. Additionally, with two semesters for Flagship Internship and Work Integrated Learning Procedure, Digital Marketing students can also gain hands-on experience and leadership by joining real projects in real-life working environments. Moreover, the Student Aid program initiated by RMIT Vietnam Equitable Learning Services was awarded the 2023 ADCET’s Accessibility in Action Award as the first and only university in Vietnam to support students who are neurodiverse or living with disabilities via physical or mental, impacting their educational participation, which contributes to an equitable learning environment.
In Quang Nam, studying in an international environment is quite rare as most students would choose public universities. However, with great RMIT values of “Inclusion, Imagination, Integrity, Courage, Passion and Impact”, I want to make a difference and I believe I am a good fit for your program. And if awarded the Vice-Chancellor Scholarship, I would share this inspiring story to encourage people, particularly the high-school students from small provinces like me, to dare to think differently and to take a further step to RMIT.
